Description
SLO:

Vsebina in cilji projekta

7. Razvoj ukrepov za zmanjševanje osipa, ki bi pokrivali tematiko ustrezne izbire študijskega področja/programa, postopek prijave/izbire in sprejetja, zasnove študijskih programov, poučevanja/učenja in mentoriranja ipd.

8. Proučitev posledic osipa študentov za trg dela z različnih vidikov (individualnih, institucionalnih, ekonomskih in družbenih).

Faze projekta in njihova realizacija
  1. Pregled in sinteza tuje in domače relevantne literature osipa študentov

  2. Kvantitativna analiza podatkov o študentov

  3. Oblikovanje predlogov ukrepov

    EN:
The research project focuses on the issue of early dropout from higher education in Slovenia. The project aims to understand and address thisproblem by analyzing the causes of student dropout and formulating measures to reduce this phenomenon. Student dropout has numerous negativeconsequences for the students themselves, higher education institutions, the economy, and society, such as incomplete education, reducedworkforce competitiveness, and loss of financial resources for higher education.
Understanding the factors influencing student dropout and developing measures to reduce it are key challenges not only for higher education institutions but also for the higher education system as a whole. Numerous studies have revealed that student dropout is not a simple phenomenon; it stems from various causes and depends on a complex combination of national, institutional, and individual factors. Contributing factors include insufficient academic preparedness, financial difficulties, a lack of social support, inadequate counseling and guidance, and personal challenges such as physical or mental health issues. These factors can intertwine and interact, further increasing the risk of dropout.
    Project Content and Objectives
    1. Reviewing relevant domestic and international literature on student dropout, as well as examining potential causes identified in foreign reports and European-level regulatory documents regarding the issue.
    2. Investigating the effectiveness of existing dropout reduction strategies and assessing their suitability within the Slovenian context.
    3. Developing a methodology for monitoring student dropout throughout the academic year, including the definition of indicators and data collection approaches.
    4. Systematically collecting and organizing data from official records (eVŠ, SURS) and creating databases for further data processing.
    5. Employing quantitative and qualitative research methods to analyze dropout rates at the first and second cycles of study between 2012 and 2022, categorized by field of study.
    6. Defining the characteristics of student groups based on findings regarding dropout—specifically students who discontinue their studies at the first and second cycles—and the factors causing this, broken down by study cycle, field of study, and whether it is their first enrollment in higher education.
    7. Developing measures to reduce dropout rates, addressing issues such as the appropriate choice of field of study or program, application and admission processes, study program design, teaching and learning methods, mentoring, etc.
    8. Examining the consequences of student dropout for the labor market from various perspectives (individual, institutional, economic, and societal).

    Project phases:
    – Review and synthesis of relevant domestic and international literature on student dropout
    – Quantitative analysis of student data
    – Formulating proposed measures
    – Consequences of student dropout for the labor market
    – Dissemination

The project “Analysis of student dropouts in higher education: an overview of patterns and trends and a proposal for measures to reduce them” (No. V5-2360) is co-financed by the Slovenian Research and Innovation Agency (ARIS) and the Ministry of Higher Education, Science and Innovation from the state budget in the amount of €29,019.68.
